OUR STORY

In 1902, Gravy Field founded the Branch Ranch family ranch and over 100 years later, our ranch is still family owned and operated by third and fourth generation of the Field family. Today, Branch Ranch Natural is the only grass fed, grain finished natural beef that is raised, finished, processed, and distributed by a family-owned and operated ranch in the United States.

Leading the industry with state of the art computer tracking technology, advanced DNA identification and routine ultrasound feedback measuring the animal’s ribeye thickness and marbling, we have revolutionized the cattle industry, positioning ourselves as one of the most technologically advanced ranches in the United States.

We have developed partnerships with leading agricultural institutions, such as New Mexico State University, to ensure these revolutionary practices are cultivated and sustained.

GRAVY FIELD

Over a century ago, Herschel Robert “Gravy” Field mounted up his horse and left home at the age of thirteen in search of adventure. After traveling across the Southwest as a cattle driver, through red ragged mountains and dry dusty flatland, Gravy rode into Texas and sunk his wagon into the dirt near Old Pueblo Springs. He branded the town Bronco, Texas and it remains there today as the headquarters of our family ranch, Branch Ranch. Gravy’s small sunken wagon soon became the town’s general store and outfitted ranches all over the Texas panhandle with supplies and goods. As the town continued to grow and prosper, Gravy founded the town’s post office, schools were opened and the town’s population expanded, solidifying Bronco a hub of the growing West Texas cattle region.

OUR RANCH

Our family ranch stretches across the flatland of both Texas and New Mexico. Cattle are kept in outdoor pastures on our sprawling ranch property, where they are grass-fed and allowed to grow at their own natural pace. Each animal is individually tracked from birth to harvesting to provide assurance to the consumer that they know exactly where their beef comes from.

Branch Ranch is also home to our own cattle finishing facility on ranch property, where cattle are provided a complex, nutrient-rich diet coupled with a very low stress environment. Cattle spend between 90 and 120 days feasting and relaxing in the sunshine at the ranch’s finishing facility before they are moved to the processing plant.

Branch Ranch is and has always been a “Green” ranch. Our sustainable land, water and soil conservation practices are a way of life for the Branch Ranch family, and we are dedicated to sustainable practices that ensure the ranch land, ranch workers and cattle are cared for in the most environmentally responsible ways possible.

Branch Ranch cattle are grass-fed after weaning to allow them to develop prior to entering the finishing phase. This diet is traditionally a grass pasture diet or a low-energy, grain based diet supplemented with grass, haylage or silage. Branch Ranch animals are always given a 100% vegetarian diet – their feed never contains animal protein or animal byproducts.

The cattle’s nutrient-rich and wholesome diet, coupled with a very low stress environment, produce a healthier animal and in turn, healthier and better tasting beef. Grassfed beef is lower in saturated fat and typically provides more omega-3 fats than any other beef due to the green grass the cattle eat. Omega-3 fatty acids are considered essential fatty acids and aid in heart-health and and brain function.

Branch Ranch cattle are always handled humanely and gently throughout all phases. Cattle live in outdoor pastures, where they are grass-fed and allowed to grow at their own natural pace. The on-site finishing facility provides an additional low stress environment where the cows feast in the sunshine before they are sent to the harvesting facility. The cattle’s nutrient-rich and wholesome diet, coupled with a very low stress environment, produce a healthier animal and in turn, healthier and better tasting beef.

Branch Ranch uses the TempleGrandin methods for livestock handling and transport, which take advantage of the natural behavior of cattle ultimately reducing the cattle’s stress levels. These methods ensure cattle are treated humanely and safely.
